When the positive electrode of the diode is connected to the P region and the negative electrode is connected to the N region, the PN junction is in a forward biased state. At this time, the electrons in the P region will be attracted by the hole in the N region, forming a stream of electrons and conducting the current. When the positive electrode of the diode is connected to the N region and the negative electrode is connected to the P region, the PN junction is in a reverse bias state. At this time, the depletion layer blocks the carrier and does not conduct the current.


In-line diodes have many uses in electronic circuits. One of the simplest uses is as a rectifier diode, which converts alternating current electrical signals into direct current signals. In addition, in-line diodes are also widely used in signal processing, power amplification, voltage constant current source and other circuits.
