Classification of diodes

1. TVS diode

Transient voltage suppression diode (Transient voltage suppression diode), also known as TVS diode, TVS is a protection device, commonly used in connector interfaces, test points, switching power supplies and other places, and the protected load is used in parallel.

2. Rectifier diode

The rectifier diode generally has a large forward current, more than 1A. Generally planar silicon diodes are used in various power supply rectifier circuits. In some high-voltage current relatively large input power supply, if the need for anti-reflex diodes, also use rectifier diodes.

3. Voltage regulator diode

The voltage regulator diode, also called Zener diode, is very similar to the TVS diode, which uses the reverse breakdown characteristics of the PN junction, but the reaction speed is not as good as the TVS tube.

4. Schottky diode

Schottky referred to as SBD, has two characteristics, forward voltage reduction and reverse recovery time is small, commonly used for high-current rectifier, high-current rectifier tube, is generally Schottky. Small current, generally used as a switch. It is also often used as a continuous current diode because of the advantage of its short reverse recovery time.

5. Quick response diode

Fast recovery diodes are similar to Schottky, or FRD, and are commonly used as rectifier diodes and continuation diodes.

Different from traditional PN junction diodes, some quick recovery diodes use PIN junction diodes, that is, base region I is added in the middle of P-type silicon material and N-type silicon material to form PIN silicon wafer. Because the base area is very thin, the reverse recovery charge is very small, so the reverse recovery time of the fast recovery diode is short, the forward voltage drop is low, and the reverse breakdown voltage (withstand voltage value) is high.

6. Continuous current diode

The flyback diode is actually a diode that acts as a continuation in the circuit, often using a Schottky diode or a fast recovery diode as a continuation diode.
